Fail Fatale

August 29, 2011

Am I the only one who feels ripped off by MTV? The Britney Tribute was nothing it could have been. Sure the dancing sequence was entertaining, but the sped up version of Britney’s music just made it seem like MTV was trying to get it over with as quickly as possible. As Kingsley points out:

Clearly, MTV was not looking to give Britney the tribute she deserves. I’m sorry (but really not sorry), Britney’s career dates back to their preteens, she has 13 years within the music industry, she was the all time high selling female artist during 2000-2009, she still continues to make music, she produced 7 albums (not including Greatest Hits, B in the Mix and The Singles Collection), she has won around 300 music awards and she remains a pop legend; Britney deserves to have a whole SHOW dedicated to her accomplishments especially since she is NOT EVEN 30!

Instead, MTV used Britney to highlight other female artists. Lady GaGa made introducing Britney about herself. I love GaGa but that was not fair. Then MTV didn’t even let Britney speak on her own. MTV used her moment to put forth its agenda–spotlighting Beyonce. I love Beyonce too, but again, it was not her moment. A real tribute would have been current pop stars (that grew up listening to Britney) singing Britney’s greatest hits. Now that would have been really entertaining and showing appreciation for the music Britney has produced. Glee got it right in their episode featuring Britney songs. That was a tribute.

I’m not happy about how this went down. Britney deserves better. She has come a long way and I’m proud of her no matter what.
