The New Autograph: The Tweet

June 19, 2010

Receiving a signed piece of paraphernalia does not excite me as much as my favorite celebrity @ replying me on Twitter. Even taking a photo on my Blackberry and Twitpic-ing it to the world satisfies my celebrity needs.

When I met Andy Cohen, the first thing I did was Twitpic the photo we took together. I never asked for his autograph. When he @ replied, I felt a stroke of nervousness and excitement. It all felt unreal.

As Web 2.0 evolves, so do social norms. Asking for an autograph was once how we recognized we met a celebrity; we now, instead, tweet it out for the world to see. As the world becomes digital, so do our lives. I just want the videophone from Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century to become real!

I totally agree! Who cares about a freaking name on a piece of paper! I want a mention on Twitter or a picture!
